Two Berks County wineries recently brought home medals at the American Wine Society's national wine competition.
The annual competition took place in November at the American Wine Society's national conference in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Dan Brown won 10 medals for Deerfoot Winery, Maidencreek Township, including a Gold for an NY81.
The competition has been held annually since 1986 by the American Wine Society, a national nonprofit with over 7,000 members, and the oldest and largest consumer-based wine education organization in North America, according to the society's LinkedIn page.
A blind taste test is conducted by a panel of judges from a broad spectrum of wine industry professionals, including marketers, writers and wine makers.
The competition features two categories: commercial and amateur. Brown and Scott competed in the commercial category.
Scott is a former winemaker at Folino and currently works at William Heritage Winery, Mullica Hill, N.J.
