For the third year downtown Reading was treated to a daytime holiday concert.
Barrio Alegria again partnered with BCTV for its Window Concert with artists performing inside the display window of Berks Community Television’s studio, 401 Penn St. Those outside could hear performances through a speaker system.
“The idea of this concert beyond spreading holiday cheer is to bring art to where people are,” said Daniel Egusquiza, Barrio Alegria's executive director. “We understand that sometimes art is seen as secondary, but we recognize the transformative and healing power of art.”
He said the tradition began in December 2020 when the organization opened a window at its center above the WCR and held a concert for passersbys and watchers on social media.
“We grew the concept after the pandemic and partnered with BCTV who has supported all community art initiatives,” he said.
Seven community artists performed: Annalis Ortega, Jamilette Santiago Leon, Kyle Zayas, Jon Jquon Wright, Justin Perez, Tariq Kyron, Isabella Morgalo.
