The Reading School district will have a new assistant superintendent of operations.
The school board at its monthly voting meeting appointed Dr. Portia Slaughter to the position.
Slaughter, who brings extensive experience to the job, is expected to begin next month.

Slaughter’s resume includes principal roles at several schools, including Rowland and Camp Curtin academies in Harrisburg and Midtown Academy in Largo, Fla.
She is state certified and holds a doctoral degree in education from the American College of Education, Indianapolis, and a master’s degree in education from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, Tallahassee.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Slaughter to our leadership team,” Dr. Jennifer Murray, superintendent, said in a statement. “Her extensive experience and proven ability to lead and inspire will be invaluable as we continue building a foundation that supports the success of all students.”
