Elizabeth Juryea has been named Twin Valley High School's December Intern of the Month.
Juryea interns at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site in Elverson.
Her internship tasks include community outreach and community service, dying wool, helping with living history events, supporting school tour groups, taking photos of the park, preparing for special events like the Christmas event showcasing early- and mid-19th century Christmas, and planning for the anticipated spring season in the park, shared her mentor Nick Cahill, park ranger and volunteer coordinator. Juryea has also just completed a new brochure for the park as a spring advertisement.

Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site preserves the late 18th and early 19th century setting of an iron-making community, including the charcoal-fueled furnace, and its natural and cultural resources. This community illustrates the essential role of industrialization in the growth of the early United States, according to a release from Hopewell Furnace. For more information, call 610-582-8773 or visit the park website at www.nps.gov/hofu.
Juryea is grateful for being honored as the Intern of the Month and says that her mentors have allowed her so many opportunities.
“I couldn’t have made it this far without everyone’s support,” said Juryea.
At Twin Valley High School, Juryea is the historian for the TSA Club, and a member of the stage crew in Theater Arts. Outside of school, she participates in Girl Scouts, working on her Gold Award to construct an Environmental Learning Center at Camp Wood Haven.
Her future plans include attending Slippery Rock University to study environmental science. She is interested in a career in parks and recreation with a focus on wildlife.
