Berks churches schedule Christmas concerts [Religion Digest]

• The Ringgold Band, directed by Chuck Ebersole, will present a concert of holiday music in the sanctuary of Reformation Lutheran Church, 3670 Perkiomen Ave., Exeter Township, on Sunday at 2 p.m. A free-will offering will be received and a reception will follow the concert in the parish hall.

• Celtic Glen will bring its distinctive Celtic flavor to the holiday season with carols and songs from Scotland and Christmas favorites in a pay-as-you-wish concert on Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. at Pennside Presbyterian Church, 253 N. 25th St., Mount Penn. With fife and drums and bagpipes, Celtic Glen brings the joy of the Scots to every performance.

• The Greater Reading Encore Chorale will present its annual choral  concert entitled “Celebrate the Season” on Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. at Alsace Lutheran Church, 2201 Kutztown Road, Muhlenberg Township.

• The choir and guests of St. John Hill United Church of Christ, 620 Hill Church Road, Pike Township, will present the cantata “The Ballad of Bethlehem” by Pepper Choplin on Dec. 15 during the 9:30 a.m. worship service. They will also do a repeat performance at the Walnut Woods Senior Living Center in Boyertown at 3 p.m.

• The Director’s Big Band Christmas Concert will be held next Saturday at 7 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 45 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown. There will be a free drive-through, take-out meal today from 4:30-5:30 p.m., no registration necessary. Advent Holden Evening Prayer will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

• Renewed Spirit Church, 449 N. Ninth St., Reading, will hold “Deutscher Weihnachtsgottesdienst,” a traditional Christmas worship experience in High German, on Dec. 15 at 11 a.m.  Worship will be led by the Rev. Sonja Ware, pastor of Renewed Spirit, in partnership with the Reading Liederkranz Singers, under the direction of Mark Herr. Parking is available on the adjacent church lot; overflow parking also is available nearby. Radio station WEEU-830 AM will broadcast the service live, a tradition that dates from 1927.

• Salem Belleman's Church will be holding a Christmas celebration in Belleman's Old Church, 3734 Belleman's Church Road, Centre Township, on Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m. There is no electricity, heat or plumbing, dress appropriately. There is  a pump organ and battery lights will be provided for the service.  Refreshments will be served in the Fellowship Hall following the service.

• The Sunday school of Christ Lutheran Church, 1301 Luzerne St., Reading will present “The Not So Silent Night” during the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday.

• Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road, Douglass Township, Montgomery County, will hold Coffee and Conversation on Sunday at 8:30 and 10 a.m. in the Welcome Center.

• Zion’s Lutheran Church, 354 Zion’s Church Road, Perry Township, will feature a display of over 200 Nativity sets from a private collection in its Fellowship Hall next Saturday from noon-3 p.m.. A free will donation will be accepted and all proceeds will be sent to Lutheran Disaster Response to aid in domestic emergency assistance. Complimentary cookies and hot and cold beverages will be served during the showing.

• United Church of Christ of Robesonia, 301 W. Penn Ave., has scheduled the following events: today, Alive in Christ Walking Group will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the walking trails at Wernersville State Hospital, call  484-332-4345 to stay connected; Tuesday, Bible study by Zoom, 9 a.m., email revm@uccrwe.org for the link; Wednesday, Bible study, 6-8 p.m., call 610-741-8815 for more information; Thursday, women's lunch, Country Fare Restaurant, 498 E. Lincoln Ave., Myerstown, 11:30 a.m., email revm@uccwe.org to make a reservation; Thursday, free community meal, Soup ‘n' Such, 4-6 p.m. at the church, free Children's Clothing Closet is open at the same time.

• St. John’s Gernant’s Church (A Federated Congregation), 13 Gernant’s Church Road., Ontelanuee Township, will worship Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Memorial Hall. Guest pianist AnnaMae Loose will play “A Highway for Our God.” There will be fellowship following the service. On Tuesday, there will be Bible study at 1 p.m. and a free drive-through community meal of chicken, rice, beans, bread and brownies from 5 p.m. until the food runs out.

• Calvary United Church of Christ, 640 Centre Ave., Reading, welcomes guest musicians Eden Moyer and Eric Katzenmoyer to its 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday. The monthly S4 group will be held after the service, and the church will be open for the Centre Park Christmas Tour.

• Zion Lutheran Church, 300 W. High St., Womelsdorf, will be holding its annual Christmas cookie sale next Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon (or sold out), large selection, $10 per pound.

• Schwarzwald Lutheran Church, 250 Church Lane Road, Exeter Township, will hold an Advent wreath lighting on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the church office parking lot.

In order to have an event listed in the religion digest, it must be something that is not just a regular worship service. This includes things such as guest musicians or vocalists who are not members of the church choir; guest speakers; flea markets and other sales, meals, etc. Send information to life@readingnews.us.
